The Lebenshilfe Saarbrücken, a local support organization for people with health issues, and their many employees make an important contribution to inclusion based on the motto “It's normal to be different.” As a non-profit organization, however, Lebenshilfe Saarbrücken relies on cost-neutral benefits when it comes to rewarding its employees. Katharina Renkes, human resources administrator, reports: “We were simply motivated by wanting to give something back to our employees because they do such a great job. [...] But since we are a non-profit organization, we can't pay out big bonuses.” And Lease a Bike is a win-win for the Saarbrücken branch of Lebenshilfe: “It's a great way for us to give something back to our employees.”
We visited the Saarbrücken branch of the German mental health charity, Lebenshilfe, and talked about company bike leasing as an employee benefit. The Saarbrücken branch of the German Lebenshilfe (a national organization that supports people with learning difficulties and their families) is involved in a wide range of inclusion work in and around Saarbrücken, with the aim of supporting people with disabilities in their self-determination. Its employees therefore have a wide range of qualifications, but at the same time do not always have a permanent job. Inclusion consultant Gabi Hessener, for example, visits a large number of locations in her daily work. And she uses her company bike to travel between the various schools and clients in a sustainable and cost-efficient way. “Since Saarbrücken has a lot of hills, it's very pleasant to use the e-bike to get to these locations and not arrive drenched in sweat. It's convenient for everyone and I save time,” she says.
Roman Schmitt, a curative education nurse, is also very happy with his company bike: “I use the bike every day because I don't have a car. I also take it with me on public transport, i.e. on the S-Bahn.” The company bike makes his everyday life much easier: “I can get around the city very easily. The bike doesn't need a parking space and you don't get stuck in traffic.”
