Since 2017, the German Cyclists' Federation (ADFC) has been awarding the coveted EU-wide “Bicycle-friendly employer” certificate. Now the company bike leasing provider Lease a Bike in Cloppenburg has received the highest award in ‘Gold’.
Sara Tsudome, Project Manager at the ADFC Federal Association, emphasises: ‘Lease a Bike supports employees who use bicycles for their commute to work with a variety of measures. This has numerous advantages: employers can score points in terms of company health, environmental and mobility management.’
Bicycle-friendly employers save resources and use finances wisely: Bicycle parking is cheaper and requires less space than car parking spaces.
Companies that encourage their employees to cycle benefit in many ways. Regular exercise has been proven to improve health and increase motivation. To promote cycling, teams can take part in campaigns such as ‘CITY CYCLING’.
It is essential that all bicycles can be parked safely, dry and, if possible, at ground level.
Changing facilities and showers are also rated positively. Companies are also recognised when they offer discounts for commuters by bike in addition to job tickets for public transport.
Importance for employee health and sustainability
Companies that systematically promote cycling and are certified benefit: An increase in cycling to work can prevent a lack of exercise. Employees who cycle to work have on average a third fewer sick days and a lower risk of infection. Bicycle-friendly measures contribute to corporate environmental management and are an essential part of sustainable mobility management - because employee mobility is part of the carbon footprint. Attractive cycling offers are also important in the competition for skilled labour.
Delighted with the award and confirmation of our efforts
We are delighted to have received the award and feel that our efforts have been recognised by receiving the ‘Gold’ certificate as a bicycle-friendly employer. This award spurs us on to continue our efforts and offer our employees a supportive environment for the use of bicycles as a sustainable means of transport. We are determined to continuously improve and promote our bicycle-friendliness in order to improve the health of our employees, conserve resources and contribute to sustainable mobility.
At Lease a Bike, we've known it for a long time, but now science agrees - cyclists are happier. The reasons were investigated in a study by the University of Auckland. The researchers have observed in previous studies that people who switch from cars or public transport to bicycles are measurably happier.
Employee retention goes far beyond the salary alone. The aim is to create a positive working environment in which employees can not only achieve their professional goals, but also flourish personally. Satisfied employees are not only more productive, but also significantly promote the positive image of the company. Benefits play a crucial role here, as they help to make the working environment more attractive.
In a world where workloads are constantly increasing and the boundaries between work and private life are becoming blurred, the well-being of employees has become a key concern for companies. Occupational health management (OHM) is a strategic approach that aims to promote the health and well-being of employees and thus increase the company's performance and productivity in the long term.
