Lease a Bike and Volkswagen Financial Services (VW FS) can look back on a successful first year of their bicycle leasing cooperation! In December 2023, Volkswagen Financial Services joined forces with the started bicycle leasing for its employees with the company bicycle leasing provider Lease a Bike more than 800 leased bikes have now been handed over. Even better: the colleagues at Volkswagen AG have leased almost 17,000 bikes - and across the Group, around 33,000 bicycles were leased by 25 Volkswagen companies. Far more than originally expected for the expected for the first year.

The highlight of the employee offer: Group employees have the opportunity to lease up to four bikes. Interestingly, more than 70 percent of leasers opted for a single bike, while the others ordered several bikes at once. And in terms of popularity, e-bikes are clearly in the lead - more than 86 percent of leased bikes are e-models.

Background: Volkswagen Financial Services holds a 49 percent stake in Lease a Bike. And the leasing offer itself not only demonstrates the success of the sustainable mobility initiative within the Group, but also VWFS's commitment to environmentally friendly solutions and the promotion of healthy, flexible mobility for employees.

Expansion of reference options in the second year of cooperation and an outlook

And it gets even better: with immediate effect, Lease a Bike is expanding the bike leasing options for VWFS employees. They can now also purchase their bikes directly from online retailers or direct mail order companies - this was previously not possible. A corresponding protocol note to the works agreement on bicycle leasing was concluded with the works council. The dealers are listed in the Lease a Bike portal, which now offers an even larger selection.

Lease a Bike and Volkswagen Financial Services plan to further intensify their successful cooperation and open up new markets. The goal remains clear: to offer more people access to climate-friendly mobility supplements and to promote the use of bicycles even more.

Attractive conditions and sustainable mobility options for employees

With its innovative leasing model, Lease a Bike was able to win over many more customers beyond the Wolfsburg Group in 2024. “Our unique service, individual solutions and innovative processes have won them over. We are very proud of our partnership with Volkswagen in particular - and of being able to offer employees state-of-the-art leasing models and sustainable mobility supplements,” says Christian Wölbern, General Manager at Lease a Bike.
